Description

Jigsaw Puzzles HD is a classic jigsaw puzzle game with beautiful high-resolution images and various difficulties that make it perfect for everyone in the family! The game features several piece types and sizes, which allows the player to make it as challenging or relaxing as they'd like.

My role

I implemented all the functionality of the game as a UWP app, allowing us to deploy it to PCs, tablets and phones. The app integrated with a "DB as a service" where all the image packs descriptions and images were stored.

I also created a special admin tool in WPF where we'd manage the image packs, resize images, and set other information about them.

Behind the scenes

At the time we were aimed at making several small and simple games, so a classic puzzle made perfect sense.

Even though it's a simple game, there's a lot of little things that can make the user experience better. We had options to lock pieces in place, to have extra space for the pieces so that the screen does not clutter as much, and an ability to double-tap a piece and hide all non-locked pieces.

We also had a few other cool ideas that we sadly never got to do. I was thinking that maybe we could use a short looping video instead of a simple picture. And if that's too much movement, we could make it so that it's normally static, but plays when you complete the whole image, or maybe it plays for a few seconds when you connect pieces together or a certain portion of the image, and at that time it could also play specific sound that matches the completed part and immerses the player even more. Of course, that would make creating new puzzles much more difficult, but I'm curious whether it would make the feeling even better! That's something I'd still like to explore some day. 🤩
